Spotlight on Business – Monica Rubin

The Levittown Chamber of Commerce would like to introduce one of its newest members Monica Rubin from School of Rock Syosset/Oyster Bay located at 180 Michael Drive in Syosset, which opened in the middle of the pandemic in September 2020. Rubin also owns two other locations…. one in Huntington opened in 2017 and the other in Rockville Centre opened in 2014.

Rubin says that School of Rock is a growing, passionate community dedicated to enriching lives through performance-based music education. Students take the path from the lesson room to the stage where every few months, they perform a rock concert for a live audience.

Rubin’s dedication is evidenced by the fact that although she lives in Queens she spends most of her waking hours at School of Rock. Rubin mentioned it is truly a home away from home for both herself and the students. She said “Pre-Covid, you would always find students hanging out at the school even if they didn’t have a lesson or a rehearsal that day. They would come and jam with their friends, practice on their own, or even just come to do their homework. School of Rock is a family. We are part of our students’ lives and they are a part of ours. We are fortunate enough to have a front row seat watching our students grow both as artists and as young adults. At School of Rock, we are also community oriented as we have our students perform at fundraisers, local events, festivals, parades, venues, and much more.”

School of Rock staff consists of 30 members who sometimes rotate through all three locations. All of their instructors hold a degree in various areas of music and music education.

Rubin said they have a School mascot named Wally! Wally is a five year old black Golden Doodle that plays a mean tambourine! His favorite bands are the Foo Fighters and the Inoculated Canaries. He howls along every time he hears them!

Any child aged 5-17 can register for a free trial lesson with one of their Guitar, Bass, Drum, Keys, or Vocal instructors. Lessons and rehearsals are enrolling both online and in person!
