Our mission statement: “It is the mission of the Island Trees Public Library to be an integral part of the community, meeting the educational, informational, cultural and recreational needs of the community that we serve.” The Library is a place that welcomes education and knowledge; we seek to engage and connect with our community on all levels. Young’s goal–to make everyone that walks into our space walk out feeling even better than when they came in.
Young is thrilled to say that Island Trees Public Library opened their new facility in September 2021, and is currently the only library in Nassau County that is completely brand new. They grew from a library of 7,400 square feet to close to 20,000 square feet, which includes going from a 45-person maximum community room to an over-sized 300-person community room with a state-of-the-art A/V lighting and sound system. Since they opened, they have been able to hold in-person programs as they can both safely socially distance the audience and speakers with ease.
Young is enthusiastic about all the modern Tech advantages available. The library offers free museum passes and free circulating hotspots. They have oversized study pods for groups to meet in as well as areas in the library for quiet individual study. In addition, they have dozens of locations for plugging in electronic devices and free WiFi both indoors as well as outdoors on the library’s patio. A diverse collection can be found in both print and digital formats—they have traditional print books as well as downloadable eBooks and audio books, graphic novels, as well as services like HOOPLA for streaming movies and music. Island Trees Public Library even offers a telescope that you can check out and take home for all of your celestial needs!
Young wants all organizations and businesses located in the Island Trees School District to know that they are eligible to receive an Island Trees Public Library card. ITPL cardholders have full access to all collections and services.
